Virginia Monte is an innovative and highly visual Theatrical Director and Designer- a versatile practitioner with extensive insight into not only performance theory and pedagogy, but the design and artistry underlying the disciplines of set design, scenic artistry, costumes, properties, and puppetry, as well as fine art, artistic theory, semiotics, illustration and marketing design. Currently based out of Rochester, NY, Virginia has directed/designed productions regionally throughout the United States, as well as for Off-Broadway, Off-Off Broadway, and international venues. Virginia is the founding Artistic Director of WallByrd Theatre Co. and has designed work for companies such as Godlight Theatre (NYC), Oran Mor (Glasgow), and the Rochester Shakespeare Players (NY).
Virginia holds a BA from Stetson University in Fine Art, as well as an MA from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Directing for Classical and Contemporary Text. Recipient of the 2011 National Youth Theatre Award for Most Outstanding Costume Design.
